What's the purpose of a doubleunder, exactly? I have no issue with them, but I'm trying to figure out what the increase benefit is other than moving your wrists faster and getting winded a little easier.

http://www.crossfit.com/cf-journal/Virtuosity.pdf (no info about double unders, just a good read)
they are taxing and creat much exertion, so therefore they are goooooood. not much has been writen on the subject so i'm not sure either.
Can't you get the same exertion by doing 2x-3x the amount of single unders, though?
I agree jump roping is good, but what makes the double under that much better than a single under or vice versa?
i can only say what i've learned by doing double unders. what i've learned is that they are 2x-3x harder. they do get progressively easier. at the beginning they are clearly 5x-10x harder. simply meaning that they take lots of exertion and lots of effort. also the jump is higher, when doing regular jump ropes i can get away with very small jumps and with double unders the jump is 2-3x higher, so if anything it teaches a person to jump higher.
i don't know for sure, i would like to hear why they are part of crossfit. i was thinking today and i haven't done any studies or research, but they come up on the main site wods more than burpees. double unders are a regular. i keep prescribing them because i want to figure them out, i don't think it's like thrusters or a deadlift where a person has the ability to infinitely improve, i think we'll get to a point where it's like riding a bike and we won't need to practice them very much.
55 ring dips
Jake, do you realize there are 150 KB swings in here. Back in June, you prescribed one WOD that was 100 KB swings @ 70lbs. That was the entire WOD. Now, you up it to 150x70lbs?
Does anyone else get the feeling that the 70lber has the potential to yank your arms out of your sockets, or is that just me??
this wod is nothing compared to 75x2 last week.
yeah that's a lot of swings for such a big KB.
i have a myspace page if you guys want to check it out.

i sense some chickenosity. are you afraid of a little old kettlebell? you 2 big brutes should lap this up like it was a bowl of cream.
i've never checked out any of the famed 'my space' pages. naylor, you will be my first.
I thought only teenagers frequented myspace, personally.
haha...yeah i first signed up because it was the only way i could get my younger sister to write me back! then i started looking around and found a bunch of old friends that i've been wanting to get back in touch with. after a while i just started adding pictures and junk.
sam 17:15--50% double unders, 50% regular jump ropes
jake 17:55 as rx'd
chris 20:15--50% double unders 50% regular jumps
we had my neighbor from across the street come over with his shirt off shortly after we started and say "every morning at 5:30 you guys wake me up" he was mad! this was the first of the unfriendly neighbor jabs i have taken yet. all i could say is "i'm sorry about that".
we only work out m/w/f, and we play no music, his back yard is right next to the rumbling interstate. i can't believe it bothers him. a few silly double unders!!!! haha!!
Sam said i should tell him to get used to it because it's not going to stop. Sam is sold on crossfit. The dude just loves it.
Hey naylor, what part of san diego are you from?
chris who is working out with us is heading back to southern california in february. i'll have to find out where exactly he is from and i'll let you know.
i'm an hour north of SD...city called Temecula.
17:36.
Subbed ~2 x single jumps for double unders (i.e., instead of 80 double unders, I did 160 single jumps; instead of 60 double unders, I did 120 single jumps, etc).
I started with DUs, but ended up clobbering my toe with the rope a couple of times in a row and it felt like my big toe was either going to explode or lose a toenail, so I went the route of single unders instead.
By the end of the WOD, I felt pretty dizzy and lightheaded for whatever reason. Must have been heaving that ole KB around w/o breathing enough.
yes groover, glad to see you finish it.
i didn't catch my breath during the entire wod either. that kb is very heavy.
read the faq 3.12 on crossfit main it speaks of double unders a bit.
